Why I’m Running

My name is Alex Scheel, and two weeks ago, I quit my job in the craft beer industry and filed to run for Congress in the 10th Congressional District.

I am not a politician. I am a combat veteran and local organizer who is no longer willing to accept a status quo that is pricing people out of our community while killing innocent civilians abroad.

After returning from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, I found new purpose in organizing alongside working-class people through groups like the Democratic Socialists of America and About Face: Veterans Against the War.

That work has given meaning to my life and shown me that a better world is possible, if we build it together.

Who I’m Running to Replace

Our current representative, Marilyn Strickland, has been failing our district since before she was in Congress.

As Mayor of Tacoma, she fought against wage increases and invited corporations like Geo Group and Tacoma Methanol into our city. Before running for the 10th, she served as the CEO of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce, working to defeat increases to the minimum wage that King County workers desperately needed.

As a congressperson, Marilyn Strickland has taken hundreds of thousands in corporate money, including from special interest groups like AIPAC.

While Israel committed genocide in Gaza, she personally flew out to Netanyahu's war room to endorse his campaign of mass murder.

I support ending the wars and ending support for Israel's genocide.

I support fighting against the policies of the New Democrat Caucus by opposing privatization of the VA and fighting for Medicare for All.

I want to fight against the reign of terror imposed against our immigrant neighbors by ICE and Geo Group, and fight for better wages, job programs, and real action on climate through a federal jobs guarantee.

This is a longshot. But if you believe like I do that this district deserves better, then I invite you to join us.
